The sooner you get in touch the sooner you can enjoy the hospitality, friendliness and warmth that a holiday in Essaouira provides.
Until the end of the nineteenth century, Essaouira was Morocco's main seaport. Berber and Dogon caravans brought their wares here. Goods arriving from southern Africa, via Timbuktu, the desert, over the Atlas mountains and through Marrakech, made this the favoured port from which to trade with the wider world. The road from Marrakech to Essaouira being a straight line could have only made this choice easier. Until this trade faded, when Europeans made direct contact with sub-Saharan Africa, Essaouira was amongst the most important, and richest, cities in all of the continent.
